Pawl Latches
A pawl latch is a quarter turn latch that uses a rotating cam (pawl) to engage and disengage a keeper or a door frame, while applying compression between the door and its frame. These latches are commonly used for electronic enclosures, HVAC enclosures, buses, trucks/trailers, RVs, boats and other applications where the latch is mounted on a thin sheet of metal.

To fit your exact product requirements, Sierra Pacific Engineering and Products manufactures pawl latches in either adjustable or fixed grip styles. They rotate using L handles, knob handles, knurled handles, T handles, wire bails, hex turn knobs, or thumb latches. Some of our pawl latches come in padlockable styles and we also offer padlocking cups.
SPEP manufactures a large selection of cams in straight, offset (out or in), and hooked styles, which can be matched up with the pawl latch of your choice. In order to engage and disengage, the cam must be rotated 90 degrees using either a key or a tool, such as a screwdriver, magnet, 7 mm square face, 7 mm triangular face, 8 mm recessed hex, 8 mm recessed square, double bit with 3 mm pin, 10 mm recessed hex, or Bellcore hex tool.
For extra-large door panels requiring a single pawl latch operating at more than one position, Sierra Pacific offers single-point and three-point rod adapters and accessories, such as connecting rods, adapters and rod guides.
Our industrial quality pawl latches are made of die-cast zinc, black plastic, stainless steel, 316 SS, or steel. Finishes include chrome plated, polished, yellow plated, black painted, black electro-coated, zinc plated and passivated.
